HR Officer – Libstar / Cape Town

Reporting to: Group HR Manager
Location: Plattekloof, Cape Town


Key Job Functions:

  • Ensure company adherence to HR policies and processes – apply a consistent and fair approach:
    • Assist with drafting policies as required.
    • Provide advice to managers and staff on the interpretation and application of relevant HR policies and procedures as required.
    • Coordinate policy training and workshops when required.
  • Ensure and drive compliance with applicable legislation (e.g., BCEA, EEA, LRA, etc.).
  • Execute HR improvement projects in line with driving a best practice people approach (e.g. group talent management implementation, employee wellness).
  • Execute events and initiatives to promote a healthy company culture supportive of business values.
  • HR reporting including but not limited to:
    • Group HR quarterly reports (Staff turnover, Health and Safety and CSI initiatives)
    • Training (in line with SETA requirements).
    • mployment Equity.
    • BBBEE reporting.
    • ad hoc HR reporting as needed.
  • Drive and support the performance management process.
  • Drive and support the talent management process.
  • Developing comprehensive job descriptions and specifications in conjunction with HR Manager and line managers.
  • Execution of the recruitment and selection process, recruiting for a broad range of functions and roles:
    • Advertising vacancies internally and externally (LinkedIn, Libstar website and distributing to Business Unit Heads and HR Managers) and reviewing applications received.
    • Coordinating and participating in in-person interviews with Managers and HR Manager.
    • Preparing interview guides/packs.
    • Contacting applicant references.
    • Assisting in drafting offer letters, offer of employment and other induction documentation.
  • Facilitation of the on-boarding and induction process
  • Facilitation of the exit-process.
  • Implementation and monitoring of learnership, internship and skills programmes.
  • Coordination and scheduling of training interventions in accordance with the training plan and business requirements.
  • Execution of IR processes:
    • Assisting/preparing hearing notices as well as warning and suspension documentation, including identification of charges
    • Ensuring compliance with employment laws and relevant procedures in implementing disciplinary action. 

    • Providing guidance to managers and employees in terms of all disciplinary matters. 

    • Run disciplinary hearings and facilitate warning allocations (act as the HR representative in
    • enquiries as needed).
    • Support disciplinary matters, performance management processes and employee grievance 
meetings. 

    • Represent the Company at the CCMA as required.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Employment Equity plan, compiling of annual EE reports and strategies:
    • Assist HR Manager with Employment Equity Audit for the Group.
    • Co-ordinate and arrange meetings.
    • Prepare agendas for meeting.
    • Keep minutes of the meetings.
    • Assist HR Manager to compile plan and report.
    • Track monthly progress and discuss with HR Manager.
    • Assist in driving EE goals through recruitment and other processes.
  • Attend and support employment equity and training committee meetings.
  • Keep HR filing and administration up to date.
  • Ensure that payroll is provided with the necessary employee information.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • HR or relevant Diploma or Degree.
  • 3+years of generalist HR experience.
  • Knowledge and application of labour legislation, particularly the BCEA, LRA and SDA.
  • Experience working within a FMCG or wholesale and retail environment will be preferable.
  • Excellent understanding of HR processes.
  • Own transport and driver’s licence preferrable.
