Reporting to: Food Safety and Quality Manager
Location: Blackheath, Western Cape
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Quality Controller to join a young and dynamic team in a fast-paced working environment. The Quality Controller must work to meet the highest quality and safety standards through rigorous inspection, testing, and adherence to regulatory requirements. This role involves monitoring production processes, reporting non-conformances, managing PPE, and implementing corrective actions. The Quality Controller will work closely with production teams to address quality issues, improve processes, and maintain comprehensive documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Inspection and Testing:
- Conduct detailed inspections of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
- Perform sensory evaluations and laboratory tests to verify compliance with quality standards.
- Document inspection results and report any non-conformances to the production team and Quality Assurance Manager.
- Initiate and oversee corrective actions for identified non-conformances.
- Process Monitoring and Improvement:
- Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and operational procedures.
- Identify and document deviations or inefficiencies and report them as non-conformances.
- Collaborate with production staff to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring quality issues and propose solutions for long-term improvements.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure quality control processes and documentation comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and non-conformances.
- Prepare and submit quality reports to management, including summaries of non-conformances and corrective actions taken.
- Conduct regular audits of quality control records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Coordination of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of PPE by all production staff to ensure safety and compliance with health regulations.
- Conduct regular audits of PPE usage and inventory, ensuring that all required PPE is available and in good condition.
- Coordinate with the FSQ Manager and OHS Committee to address any issues related to PPE and ensure that PPE training is up to date.
- Ensure PPE is effectively integrated into quality control procedures to maintain hygiene and prevent contamination.
- Training and Support:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for production staff on:
- Allergen Management: Proper handling, labelling, and segregation of allergens to prevent cross-contamination.
- Traceability: Procedures for tracking and documenting product origin, processing steps, and distribution to ensure traceability throughout the supply chain.
- PPE Usage: Correct usage and maintenance of PPE to ensure safety and compliance.
- Quality Control Procedures: Best practices for quality assurance and adherence to company standards.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to production teams to ensure adherence to quality standards, allergen management, and traceability requirements.
- Act as a resource for quality-related, allergen, and traceability queries, offering expertise and solutions.
- Food Safety Team:
- Member on the Food Safety Team
- Ensure a safe and clean working environment.
- Reporting on any problems with the Food Safety Management Systems to the FSQ manager/ FSQ Team Leader

Basic Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:
- Logic and attention to detail
- Grade 12 (Matric) and/or relevant Tertiary qualification
- Diploma/Degree in Food Technology/Science or related field of study
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a quality control or quality assurance role within a food manufacturing environment, preferably in baked goods or similar products.
- Proven track record with quality management systems, including HACCP, GMP, and ISO standards.
- Relevant certifications in quality control, food safety (e.g., ISO 9001, HACCP), or related areas are highly desirable.
