Technical Manager (Food Safety and Quality Assurance)-Ambassador Foods / White River, MP

Reporting to: Managing Executive
Location: Mpumalanga

As the Technical Manager, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all FSQA operations, managing a team of professionals, driving strategic projects to enhance our food safety protocols and quality assurance processes, and maintain professional customer relations. Key performance areas include, but not limited to:

  • Maintain professional relationships with customers, addressing their concerns and requirements related to food safety and quality.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to customers, ensuring their satisfaction and confidence in our products.
  • Lead and mentor a team of FSQA professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee FSQA operations, ensuring all activities are aligned with company goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and execute strategic FSQA initiatives to ensure compliance with local and international food safety standards.
  • Lead projects aimed at improving food safety, quality assurance processes, and operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate FSQA practices into all stages of product development and manufacturing.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in food safety and quality assurance.
  • Foster a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential quality issues before they impact the product.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, standards, and certifications (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000).
  • Supplier quality assurance with regards to requirements and specifications.
  • Budget and cost management for technical department.

Requirements

  • Grade 12, post-graduate degree (Hons/Masters) (e.g. Food Science, Microbiology or related field).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance, with at least 5 years in a management role.

  • Strong knowledge and training of food safety regulations, standards, and certifications (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000).
  • Proven experience in leading and managing FSQA teams and projects.
  • Proficiency in FSQA software and data management systems, with advanced computer skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Deadline orientated and resilient, analytical skills and detail conscious.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and compliance.
  • Experience in maintaining and enhancing professional customer relations.
  • Knowledge of production processes.
