Reporting to: Group Operations Manager
Location: Epping, Cape Town
Purpose:
To ensure the proper design, implementation and maintenance of equipment and building facilities
of Amaro Foods by implementing proper systems in line with all legislation and industry standards
Key Performance Areas:
- Define and implement a long-term engineering roadmap aligned with the company’s
manufacturing and business strategy. - Identify emerging technologies and trends (e.g., Industry 4.0, automation, sustainability) and
assess their potential impact. - Drive innovation in product design, process engineering, and manufacturing systems.
- Accountable for Asset Care strategies across the group
- Responsible for the data/report analysis from CMMS
- Provide relevant monthly reporting
- Oversee major engineering projects including new product introductions, equipment
upgrades, and process improvements. - Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Lead the evaluation and justification of capital expenditures (CAPEX) for new equipment,
facilities, or technology upgrades. - Prioritize engineering projects based on ROI, risk, and strategic alignment.
- Collaborate with finance and operations to secure funding and manage budgets.
- Develop and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and governance across all
manufacturing sites. - Promote lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency
and reduce waste. - Benchmark performance across plants and implement best-in-class practices.
- Over inspections of plants and equipment to ensure maintenance is being done effectively
- Assist with items escalated by the maintenance managers where more expertise, assistance
or speed is required - Ensuring preventative maintenance schedules are properly implemented according to
equipment requirements - Collaboration Partner with NPD, operations, quality, supply chain, and IT to ensure
seamless integration of engineering solutions. - Support new product introductions (NPIs) by ensuring manufacturability and scalability.
- Act as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on technical and operational matters.
- Compiling and manage group maintenance budget taking in to account maintenance
strategy and future engineering projects. - Approve or get approval for exceptions that have not been budgeted for
- Manage the preparation, review and approval of feasibility studies, designs, costings and
technical contract terms and conditions - Build a high-performing engineering organization through succession planning, training, and
leadership development. - Align team structure and capabilities with future business needs.
- Lead initiatives to reduce environmental impact, improve energy efficiency, and support
ESG goals. - Identify and mitigate engineering-related risks (e.g., equipment obsolescence, regulatory
compliance, supply chain disruptions). - Ensure business continuity through robust engineering planning and disaster recovery
strategies. - Compare Project Feasibility to Actual Outcome to identify short comings and achievements
- Comply with the necessary Occupational Health and Safety requirements
- Ensure compliance to all food safety regulations, allergen control, housekeeping and pest
control - Ensuring all maintenance contractors comply with Amaro Food Standards and policies
- Manage insurance requirements and ensure building and machines comply
- Participate in personal hygiene checks

Technical Skills Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in relevant engineering field
- 5+ years maintenance management experience
- 6-8 years’ relevant experience
- Good all-round engineering knowledge
- FMGC Industry Experience preferred
- Project Management
