People Business Partner – Cani Rusks / Western Cape

Reporting to: Business Unit Head

Location: Blackheath, Western Cape

Purpose of the role:

The role will provide People Business Partnering services that fosters collaborative, meaningful engagement and is a trusted advisor that will enhance performance, build a positive employee experience and an inclusive organisational culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Talent Management, Organisational Development and Design

  • Lead and manage a proactive, customer-focused recruitment function by applying best selection practices, supporting Employment Equity targets, controlling recruitment costs, and overseeing pre-onboarding to ensure effective integration of new employees.
  • Supports and guides managers and individual employees in the talent and performance management processes in accordance with legal regulations, Centre of Excellence (CoE) guidance, and company guidelines.
  • Facilitates the creation of retention plans and development plans for key roles and employees and tracks their execution.
  • Implement plans to fulfil diversity and inclusion requirements in alignment with corporate culture, Equity Plans and transformation.
  • Implement people projects, track and monitor impact of actions.
  • Lead change management and act as a change agent.

Labour Relations

  • Provide advice and support to employees and managers on People-related matters, including conflict management, incapacity processes, misconduct, grievances, absenteeism, working schedules, and employee assistance programs in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Lead and ensure compliance with labour legislation and internal People practices, preparing and supporting labour processes such as warnings, disciplinary hearings, and organisational change processes (e.g., S189 and S197).
  • Facilitate union engagements, and represent the company at the CCMA when required.

Internal Communications

  • Establish internal communications mediums to distribute and make People related material available.
  • Implement communications plans and toolboxes.
  • Maintain communication material and channels to preserve a positive corporate Image.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Supports compliance with Remuneration and Benefits and the administration thereof.
  • Support the creation or review of job descriptions and conduct job evaluations in line with policy.
  • Address general employee payroll queries, provide payroll audit input, prepare general payroll reporting.
  • Manages the interface to CoE regarding payroll and other People-related services.
  • Administer end-to-end payroll processing on a monthly basis, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage statutory filings and payments.

Employee Engagement

  • Coaches managers on people related aspects to achieve a culture of inclusion and high performance.
  • Coach and enable managers to effectively engage their people in order to drive business results.
  • Conduct exit Interviews and discuss department specific trends with the relevant Department Managers for information purposes and escalate where necessary.
  • Support the BU and Group with CSI initiatives aimed at strengthening the reputation of Libstar.

Building psychological safety and organisational culture

  • Drives, influences, and champions a culture of trust, inclusion, and open communication across the organisation.
  • Develop and implement strategies that empower employees to voice ideas, learn from failures, and collaborate.
  • Lead initiatives that cultivate a psychologically safe, leadership trust and inclusive work environment.
  • Coach managers and teams to adopt open communication, trust-building, and feedback-driven leadership.

People Analytics

  • Analyses People data for strategic decision making and provides various reports to suggest and implement improvements.
  • Onboarding analytics for continued employee retention and positive employee experience.
  • Identifies retention/fluctuation risk areas and implements strategies to mitigate risk.

People Administration

  • Talent and selection – review and approve headcount/vacancy requests, job adverts, applicant management, offers and contract management, relocation payments.
  • Employment equity – scheduling meetings and adhering to compliance.
  • Onboarding – monitoring and tracking of workplace integration.
  • Compensation and Benefits (C&B) – Generate forms for various C&B processes.
  • Capturing disciplinary records.

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of processes within HR (e.g. pension fund administration, Recruiting, HR administration, Talent Management, Performance Management, Labour Relations, etc.)
  • Operational HR practices, Applicable Labour law and conflict Management
  • Facilitation skills, Project and Change Management
  • Technological savvy
  • Ability to influence others from shop floor to senior leadership positions

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Industrial Psychology, Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • 3+ Years experience in HRBP and labour relations
  • 2+ Years of experience running payroll
  • FMCG manufacturing experience advantageous
