Reporting to: Category and Customer Executive
Location: Plattekloof, Cape Town

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of the Customer and Category Analyst role is to optimise category and customer performance by analysing shopper, customer, and market data, and translating it into strategies that improve sales, market share, and margins. The incumbent will provide proactive recommendations and addressing analytic briefs. Technical expertise combined with internal excellence provides a tactical approach to optimise product assortments and support Business Units through providing data analytics and visualisation. The role focuses on analysing market trends, consumer behaviour, and supplier relationships to enhance customer satisfaction and drive business growth. Identifying and driving growth strategies for all category clusters within the Libstar business.

Key Responsibilties

  • Market intelligence is provided through category performance tracking, compile and analyse category market performance reports and prepare presentations to share information in various meetings.
  • Monthly and quarterly analysis of FMCG Categories, short to medium term, state of the category, value size, share and growth of category, segments and competitor’s vs Libstar market share.
  • Pricing and promotional effectiveness, monitor pricing, elasticity, compliance, vs incremental sales, price ladders across brands and pack sizes.
  • Revision, management and compilation of annual data driven budgets and subsequent recharges across all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Category growth reporting to support the Category and Customer Executive to strategically influence profitability, enhance category performance, identify growth opportunities across all categories and channels and optimise promotion strategies.
  • Strategic Engagement: Proactively driving insight support into “Top 2 Top” executive engagement and customer reviews for major retailers.
  • Deep dive niche/bespoke category/product reviews and commercial insights to leverage sales opportunities.
  • Proactive Category Growth: Analyse market trends and consumer behaviour to identify growth opportunities within assigned categories.
  • Work closely with category managers, sales and commercial teams, marketing and brand management teams, innovation and NPD teams and the executive leadership, providing insights and commercial arguments for where to play, what to prioritise, how to win and what to stop doing.
  • Data Orbis management: general admin, report creation and innovation, engaging with internal teams to ensure clean and accurate data and alignment with reporting requirements, retailer barcode update half yearly and NPD monthly update.
  • Accurate and up-to-date tracking of new product development (NPD) and update the NPD/Discontinuation tracker.
  • Provide data insights supported by trends local and globally sourced, to assist new product development projects.
  • Support Product Innovation Projects by sharing data analysis and product performance information for product innovation.
  • Annual customer sales and growth opportunity review session preparation by retailer group
  • Assist with coordinating and organisation of customer innovation days supported with commercial arguments and market and data analytics.
  • Through deep customer and shopper understanding, translating data into customer-relevant insights, drive customer growth opportunities with the Libstar teams.

Required Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge of Category and Customer Management.
  • Knowledge of brand management principles and regulations.
  • Knowledge of market trends related to the industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Market Intelligence as it relates to category performance.
  • Proficiency in analytics software e.g PowerBI, MS Office packages such as PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel; EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) Databases, Cloud based platforms e.g. Azure, AWS.
  • Data analytics and analytical thinking are core skills require for the role.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification required in Marketing, Business or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated 3-5 years’ experience in marketing or as a business analyst.
  • Proven track history of 5-8 years’ experience in the FMCG industry and experience implementing events and projects.
