Purpose of the role:
The Professional Financial Accountant is responsible for the full financial accounting function, including creditors, debtors, payroll support, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and management reporting. The role ensures accuracy, transparency, and timeliness of financial information, supporting strategic decision-making and compliance with accounting standards. This position also provides direct leadership to the Creditors Clerk, ensuring effective creditor management and adherence to financial controls.
Key Responsibilities:
Creditors & Debtors Management
- Oversee creditor functions including supplier and farmer payments, reconciliations, and approvals.
- Supervise the Creditors Clerk to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
- Monitor debtors, ensuring collections, reconciliations, and reporting.
Payroll & HR Financial Support
- Oversee EMP201 submissions and payroll processing (weekly and monthly).
- Ensure correct payroll accounting and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Provide ad hoc HR financial support where required.
Financial Accounting & Month-End
- Prepare and post monthly journals (e.g., payroll, provisions, accruals).
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage flash reports and monthly management accounts.
- Ensure IFRS compliance in reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Support CAPEX projects with financial analysis and reporting.
- Provide variance analysis to management.
Cashbook & Treasury
- Oversee cashbook processing and reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure operational efficiency.
- Implement controls to safeguard company funds.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and reports.
- Maintain internal controls and segregation of duties in finance.
Leadership & People Management
- Supervise and develop the Creditors Clerk, ensuring role clarity, training, and performance management.
- Build a strong finance team culture focused on accountability, accuracy, and deadlines.
- Collaborate with operations, HR, and management teams to resolve queries.
Skills and Competencies Required:
- Strong accounting knowledge (IFRS, financial reporting, reconciliations).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage high-volume transactions with accuracy.
- Leadership and coaching skills to manage junior staff.
- Strong communication and interpersonal ability across departments.
Minimum Qualifications and Critical Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Financial Management, or equivalent.
- Completed articles (SAIPA/SAICA) or in process of completing professional designation.
- 3–5 years’ experience in financial accounting, preferably in manufacturing/FMCG.
- Strong ERP system knowledge; advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience with month-end reporting and creditor/debtor management.
