Project Manager (Operations) – Ambassador Foods / Mpumalanga

Location: White River, Mpumalanga

The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, monitoring and successful completion of projects within agreed timelines, budgets, quality standards and business requirements.
The role is responsible for coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring that projects are delivered effectively while managing risks, resources, stakeholders and project dependencies. The Project Manager will drive accountability, provide regular progress reporting and ensure that project outcomes align with the organisation’s strategic and operational objectives.

Key performance areas include:

Project Planning & Initiation

    • Define project objectives, scope, deliverables and success criteria.
    • Develop detailed project plans, timelines and milestones.
    • Identify required resources, budgets and dependencies.
    • Establish project governance structures and ways of working.
    • Develop project charters, schedules, work breakdown structures and implementation plans.
    • Ensure that all projects have clearly defined objectives, responsibilities and deliverables.

    Project Execution & Coordination

    • Lead projects from initiation through to successful completion.
    • Coordinate internal departments, external service providers, contractors and other stakeholders.
    • Allocate responsibilities and ensure accountability for project deliverables.
    • Facilitate project meetings and track actions to completion.
    • Ensure that project activities remain aligned to the approved scope and objectives.
    • Remove obstacles and escalate issues where necessary.

    Project Monitoring & Control

    • Monitor project progress against agreed timelines, budgets and milestones.
    • Maintain accurate project trackers and project documentation.
    • Identify delays, risks, issues and dependencies and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Manage project changes through an appropriate change-control process.
    • Monitor project expenditure and ensure that projects remain within approved budgets.
    • Track project KPIs and provide regular status updates to management.

    Stakeholder Management

    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with project stakeholders.
    • Communicate project objectives, progress, risks and changes clearly.
    • Manage stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Prepare and present project reports to management and relevant governance forums.
    • Ensure effective communication between technical, operational, commercial and support functions.

    Risk & Issue Management

    • Identify and assess project risks.
    • Develop and maintain project risk registers.
    • Implement mitigation and contingency plans.
    • Escalate significant risks and issues appropriately.
    • Monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle and ensure timely resolution of issues.

    Resource Management

    • Identify and coordinate the human, financial, technical and physical resources required for projects.
    • Ensure that project team members understand their responsibilities and deadlines.
    • Monitor resource utilisation and identify potential resource constraints.
    • Coordinate external suppliers, consultants and contractors where applicable.

    Quality & Compliance

    • Ensure that projects comply with company policies, procedures, legislation and applicable industry standards.
    • Ensure that project deliverables meet agreed quality requirements.
    • Maintain appropriate project documentation and audit trails.
    • Ensure that relevant Health & Safety, Environmental, Quality and regulatory requirements are incorporated into project plans.

    Project Closure

    • Ensure that all project deliverables are completed and formally signed off.
    • Conduct project close-out reviews.
    • Document lessons learned and recommendations for future projects.
    • Ensure that outstanding actions are resolved before project closure.
    • Prepare final project reports and relevant handover documentation.
    • Evaluate project performance against agreed objectives, budget, timelines and KPIs.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Project Management, Business Management, Operations Management, Engineering or a related field.
    • Project Management qualification or certification will be advantageous.

    Advantageous:

    • Project management certification.
    • Relevant technical or industry-specific qualification.

    Experience:

    • 3–5 years’ experience in project management or a similar role.
    • Proven experience managing projects from initiation through to completion.
    • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams.
    • Experience managing project budgets, timelines, risks and resources.
    • Experience working within a manufacturing, FMCG, supply chain, engineering or operational environment will be advantageous.
    • Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
