Cost and Management Accountant – Ambassador Foods/ Mpumalanga

Reporting to: Capacity Planner Coordinator

Location: White River, Mpumalanga

The primary purpose of the Cost and Management Accountant role is to manage and control the cost accounting functions related to production, inventory, and operational efficiency. This includes overseeing product costing, analyzing cost variances, maintaining accurate inventory records, and supporting internal financial controls across the manufacturing operations. The position plays a critical role in supporting strategic decisions through timely and accurate cost data, as well as contributing to operational and financial efficiency.

Key performance areas include:

Product Costing & Analysis

  • Implement and maintain standard costing for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Support new product development (NPD) with preliminary and final product costings.
  • Perform full absorption costing and update cost recovery rates based on actual facility costs.
  • Analyze product margin fluctuations and variances (yield, volume, price).
  • Prepare and present financial analyses on manufacturing efficiency and cost performance.

Inventory & Stock Control

  • Co-ordinate and reconcile cycle counts and full stock takes.
  • Analyze inventory variances and support inventory valuation.
  • Manage risk stock and obsolete inventory provisioning.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of inventory master data in ERP systems.

Bill of Materials (BOM) & Waste Management

  • Create, maintain, and validate BOMs based on mass balances and actual process flow.
  • Monitor and control waste factors and WIP accuracy.
  • Ensure all materials and waste are accounted for accurately in the cost system.

Financial Reporting & Month-End

  • Post weekly and monthly journals.
  • Assist with financial reporting related to manufacturing operations and cost centers.
  • Participate in the preparation of segmental income statements and G&A expense reviews.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist with production labor costing and budget planning.
  • Support CAPEX project analysis and post-implementation reviews.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure adherence to cost accounting principles and internal control procedures.
  • Support internal and external audit processes related to inventory and cost accounting.

Process Improvement

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate production time studies and facility capacity evaluations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Cost and Management Accounting, Financial Management, or Industrial Engineering.
  • CIMA qualification (or currently pursuing CIMA) is advantageous.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in cost or management accounting within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, SYSPRO and QlikView is an advantage.
