Location: Montague Gardens, Western Cape
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a professional Field Manager to contribute meaningfully to national field sales operations within a dynamic FMCG environment. Focused on execution, the position plays a pivotal role in driving sales performance across key retail and wholesale channels.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, commercial acumen, and stakeholder management capabilities, with proven experience in field operations. Responsibilities include overseeing the implementation of sales strategies, ensuring in-store visibility and promotional compliance, managing stock and returns, and coordinating a national network of external sales agents. The role also requires close collaboration with internal brand, operations, and commercial teams.
Key Job Functions:
Sales & Route Execution
- Achieve monthly sell-through targets, ensuring stock turn and replenishment.
- Develop and implement monthly route plans across national regions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with sales agencies, store managers, and regional stakeholders.
- Submit timely activity, trade visit, and performance reports to senior management.
In-Store Execution & Merchandising
- Ensure adherence to planograms, shelf health, sell-by date rotation, and promotional execution.
- Monitor and manage POS materials and testers to ensure proper distribution and visibility.
- Execute national and regional campaigns and promotions in collaboration with brand and trade teams.
Returns & Stock Control
- Log and process returns/RTVs in line with company policy and cycle dates.
- Ensure accurate stock handling and return procedures are followed by agents and stores.
- Track inventory flow, including damages, shrinkage, and in-store compliance.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and motivate sales agents, conduct regular regional meetings and training sessions.
- Coordinate closely with Key Account Managers (KAMs), brand teams, and operations to ensure alignment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to address gaps in distribution, forward share, and in-store visibility.
Customer Service & Training
- Champion service excellence in-store, resolving retailer concerns promptly.
- Facilitate product training, workshops, and refreshers for field agents and retail teams.
Insights, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor competitor activity, pricing, and promotional trends.
- Analyse operational data to identify performance gaps and propose solutions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance field execution and customer satisfaction.
Knowledge and Experience Required:
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in field sales or operations management, preferably within the FMCG industry.
- Strong understanding of retail execution, merchandising, and sales agent management.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable with national travel and working flexible hours, including some weekends.
- Proficient in MS Office and field management tools (e.g., CRM, reporting dashboards).
- Demonstrated ability to manage trade spend, claims tracking, and expense reporting.
