Purpose of the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Junior Food Technologist to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced FMCG environment. The purpose of the role is to ensure that all the internal maintenance requirements of production are met on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Packaging approval: Work with the Regulatory & Compliance officer to approve labels and different types of packaging including execution of transit trials.
- Supplier documents: Obtain updated documents from all the suppliers to submit for annual review by the Food Technologist and the Packaging Technologist including for new suppliers.
- External Supplier Information: Support the maintaining of a robust system relating to all final products and communicating any changes to the Regulatory & Compliance officer.
- Alternate suppliers: Assist with the gathering of relevant documentation for alternate supplier requests to enable risk assessments before approval.
- Incoming materials: Assisting in managing raw materials that do not correspond to specifications on file and raising of NCRs to suppliers.
- Supplier Quality Assurance: Schedule surveillance audits for low-risk suppliers
- Food Fraud: maintain and update the food fraud and VACCP system to ensure incoming materials are safe.
- Facility Audits: Assist with audits as required. Compile the information required for mock recall and traceability studies as may be required by the auditor. Support implementation of corrections and corrective actions.
- Traceability, Mass Balancing & Recall: Participate in conducing traceability and mock recalls exercises and mass balance studies across all lines.
- Customer Complaints & Queries: Provide investigation reports to the Food Technologist to finalise and report back to customers on complaints across all lines.
- Customer SQA systems: Understand how customer online systems work and upload required documents on time.
- Training: Train receiving QC on acceptance criteria for incoming raw materials and packaging as well as training production and pre-weigh team.
- Project work: Ad hoc projects as assigned by Technical Manager

- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in food science/ food technology/ chemistry/ biotechnology
- Quality control and assurance
