Purpose of the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a QC Supervisor to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced FMCG environment. The purpose of this role is to ensure that quality, hygiene, food safety and housekeeping standards are consistently maintained within the factory environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising QC activities, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, identifying and reporting deviations, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across production operations. Working Hours: Day Shift: 07:00 – 17:00 (Overtime may be required based on operational needs).
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate QC Staff activities, ensuring daily duties are allocated and staff are rotated effectively for multitasking
- Monitor attendance, timekeeping and performance of QC Inspectors and ensure all QC duties are completed accurately and timeously
- Conduct spot checks on production documentation and ensure deviations are identified and reported within required timelines
- Calibrate and maintain measuring equipment including scales, pH meters, refractometers, salt meters and thermometers according to work instructions
- Monitor fridge and freezer temperatures to ensure raw materials remain within specification and maintain product integrity
- Ensure production processing parameters are within specification and raise NCRs where non-conformances occur
- Perform food safety checks including temperature verification, metal detector checks and foreign body control procedures
- Monitor hygiene standards, chemical concentrations and personnel hygiene compliance throughout the factory
- Oversee allergen management procedures and ensure allergen spillages are handled according to company procedures
- Conduct storage practice inspections including allergen control and traceability verification
- Perform pre-batch control inspections and verify raw material weights, traceability and specifications
- Complete quality OEE checks, compile QC reports and monitor quality trends across production lines
- Ensure customer, retention, incubation, microbiological and tasting samples are handled, stored and tested correctly
- Lead daily Team Connect meetings and communicate relevant information to QC staff and management
- Support factory trials, validations and ad hoc projects as assigned by the Technical Manager
- Maintain accurate documentation, record keeping and filing systems in line with company and audit requirements
- Participate in internal and external audits, including preparation and close-out activities
- Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety and housekeeping standards at all times
- Wear required PPE and report any quality, food safety or equipment concerns immediately

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Matric (Grade 12) certificate
- Diploma or qualification in Food Science & Technology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field
- Previous experience in a QC supervisory or team leader role within an FMCG or food manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of food safety systems, hygiene standards, allergen control and GMP requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with quality inspections, NCR management and production monitoring
- Ability to interpret and analyze quality data and trends
- Computer literacy and ability to complete electronic documentation and reporting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of measuring and testing equipment such as pH meters, refractometers and thermometers
- Understanding of audit processes and compliance requirements
- Ability to work overtime when required
