Reporting line: Production Manager
Location: George, Western Cape
Role Overview:
To assist the Production Manager in production planning functions and overseeing the daily operations of the department to
ensure production goals are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in developing the overall strategic plan for the Hard Cheese Production Department
- Ensure that all production processes and procedures are followed to ensure that the production goals are met.
- Assist in the driving of Continuous improvement.
- Management of set targets: Quality; Safety and Manufacturing processes; yields and Production Planning.
- Ensure that daily “walk-throughs” are done on the factory floor to ensure any problems or possible problems are
identified and sorted. - Ensure that you have adequate knowledge of staff issues/problems on shift so that production targets can be reached.
- Ensure that all new recruits undergo an adequate departmental induction to ensure that they comply with all regulations,
standards and performance requirements. - Liaise with Maintenance department to ensure that all technical machine breakdowns are dealt with speedily.
- Responsible for monthly and quarterly audits/ training and checklists.
- Maintain the ODE (efficiency) system (includes data input and oversight of correctness of information).
- Ensure all HACCP documentation is completed and submitted to the Production Manager.
- Measure efficiency of the team members/ reportees on an on-going basis to ensure that targets and objectives are met.
- Monitors the usage of utilities and ensure production efficiency through production process.
- Ensure the relevant PPE, consumables and detergents are ordered on a monthly basis.
- Submit relevant reports to the Production Manager as and when required.
- Liaise with the Laboratory and ensure quality testing of materials, end products, production quality checks and facility
audits - Ensure that all departmental records are kept updated: training records, production records as well as quality records .
- Ensure compliance to Occupational Health and Safety and all related regulations.
- Responsible for incident investigation and reporting in department.
- Address all non-compliance reports (ncr’s) and ensure that same problem does not arise in department again.
- Participates and supports the implementation of Best Practices and other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in implementation of the corrective action and preventative action.
Qualifications and Experience:
- NQF 4, S3 or equivalent Cheese Manufacturing Qualification
- Computer literacy (advanced Microsoft Excel is advantageous)
- Minimum 10 years relevant experience within the Dairy Industry
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience within a leadership role
- A qualification in Manufacturing or Production Management would be advantageous
