Job Overview/Role Purpose:
The Perishables SHE, Security and Sustainability Manager provides strategic leadership, governance and assurance for Safety, Health, Environmental, Security and Sustainability across all Libstar Perishables operations. The role is responsible for developing and implementing world-class SHE & safety systems, ensuring legal compliance, managing enterprise risk, driving continuous improvement, fostering a proactive safety culture, supporting ESG objectives and protecting employees, assets, products and the reputation of Libstar Perishables.
This is a senior group leadership role requiring strong governance capability, technical SHE expertise, security
oversight, sustainability focus and the ability to influence Business Unit leadership teams across a multi-site perishables environment.
Role Responsibilities:
SHE Strategy, Governance and Compliance
- Develop and implement the Perishables SHE strategy aligned to Libstar objectives.
- Provide SHE strategy, governance and compliance oversight across all Perishables Business Units.
- Maintain and continuously improve the SHE Management System, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
alignment. - Ensure legal compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, by-laws and applicable standards.
- Ensure alignment of roles, legal appointments and defined responsibilities in line with the OH&S Act.
- Ensure mandatory and legal surveys, inspections and accredited third-party risk assessments are
planned, completed and reviewed at the required frequencies. - Maintain and grow the SharePoint-based SHE Management System, ensuring accurate recordkeeping
and aligned documentation across all Perishables Business Units.
Risk Management, Audits and Assurance
- Lead enterprise SHE risk identification, mitigation and annual strategic risk reviews.
- Ensure critical risk controls are implemented, verified and monitored across all Business Units.
- Conduct SHE and security audits at required frequencies across all Perishables Business Units.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, including safety, environmental and fire risk audits.
- Plan, track and review mandatory and legal surveys, inspections and accredited third-party risk
assessments, ensuring action plans are implemented. - Review and analyse audit findings, risk assessments and third-party reports, ensuring corrective actions
are implemented and closed.
Sustainability and ESG
- Lead ESG reporting for Libstar Perishables and support Libstar sustainability objectives.
- Develop and drive sustainability initiatives relating to water reduction, energy reduction, waste
reduction, carbon emissions and recycling programmes. - Compile and report on Business Unit ESG data and submit monthly ESG reporting for executive review.
- Monitor and report on all Perishables Business Unit waste management plans, aspects and impact
registers.
Security Governance
- Develop and maintain a Group Security Framework for Libstar Perishables.
- Review site security risks annually and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
- Conduct security audits at required frequencies across all Perishables Business Units.
- Investigate significant security incidents and monitor security incident reduction initiatives.
- Manage relationships with security service providers and relevant external stakeholders.
Business Unit Support and Stakeholder Engagement
- Establish a structured communication and support framework between Business Unit SHE Managers and
the Group SHE, Security and Sustainability function. - Liaise with and support Perishables Business Unit management, including General Managers and Plant
Managers. - Develop RACI frameworks for all Perishables Business Units to clarify accountability and responsibilities.
- Collaborate with Business Unit departments to support occupational health functionality and operational
compliance. - Liaise with local authorities, service providers, external auditing companies and governmental agencies
where required. - Assist Business Units in preparing Safety, Health, Environmental and Security budgets, where required.
Incident Management and Reporting
- Collate, analyse and report on Business Unit injuries on duty statistics at group level.
- Monitor injury reporting and capturing across all Business Units, including compliance with
Compensation Commissioner reporting timelines. - Monitor action request completion rates and ensure corrective actions are closed timeously.
- Liaise with the Department of Employment and Labour in the event of reportable injuries resulting in
disabilities. - Compile and submit monthly IOD and ESG reports.
Leadership, Capability Building and Continuous Improvement
- Lead, mentor and develop the competencies of Business Unit SHE practitioners.
- Develop SHE succession plans and build capability across the Perishables SHE structure.
- Facilitate SHE forums, management reviews and performance discussions.
- Present SHE, security and sustainability performance to executive management.
- Drive SHE maturity and proactive safety culture development across all Business Units.
Contractor Management, Emergency Preparedness and Capital Projects
- Establish contractor SHE standards and ensure contractor compliance across all projects.
- Ensure all contractor requirements are aligned and implemented across Perishables Business Units.
- Ensure all Business Units have comprehensive emergency response procedures in place and conduct biannual emergency evacuation practices.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Departments and the Group Engineer when new projects are planned.
- Ensure SHE considerations are incorporated during design and construction, including project risk
assessments and legal compliance requirements.
Qualification requirements:
- Safety Management Certificate, SAMTRAC, B Tech Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent qualification.
- Environmental Management Certificate or Diploma.
- SAATCA Internal Auditor Certificate.
- ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification will be advantageous.
- Security Management Diploma or Certificate, or Grade A security qualification.
- Registration with a professional safety body, such as Saiosh, will be advantageous.
Professional Experience and Behavioural Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an industrial or FMCG manufacturing environment, preferably within
a perishables or food production context. - More than 10 years’ relevant experience will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in security within an industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of Safety, Health, Environmental, Security and Sustainability legislation, standards and
best practice. - Proven experience in SHE governance, legal compliance, risk management, audits, incident management
and ESG reporting. - Demonstrated commitment to staying current with relevant SHE legislation, security developments and
industry trends. - Experience in developing and implementing management systems, frameworks, objectives, targets and
improvement plans across multiple sites. - Sound analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret trends, data
and compliance requirements. - Ability to work independently, self-manage KPIs and deliver against daily, weekly, monthly and annual
requirements. - Ability to adapt to changing business needs, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build high impact teams to drive performance.
- Experience in leading and sustaining change effectively.
- Must be stakeholder and customer focused with the ability to build relationships.
- Must have integrity and be able to build trust.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with cross
functional teams and executive management. - Must be comfortable working in operational environments that may include heat, cold, heights and
extensive walking. - Valid Code 8 driver’s licence with own reliable transport.
- Must be willing and able to travel across Perishables Business Units as required.
