Location: Athlone, Cape Town

We have a vacancy for a Shift Supervisor. The role is to support the Warehouse Coordinator with the day-to-day operations in the DC. Your department remains the last link in the supply chain and as such stock management must be maintained in such a way that your cold store variances are minimized. You are to always maintain good relationships with your internal customers to achieve the common goal of the business. To protect the cold chain of the product through the effective supervision of the DC. The effective supervision of cold store personnel to ensure proper control of the Cold Store

Key Responsibilities

  • To schedule weekend working, public holiday working, staff levels and ensure that wages fall within the monthly budgets. These schedules must be approved by the SC Warehouse Coordinator before execution.
  • To manage all staff effectively to reduce time abuse and fraudulent clocking by keeping efficient time rosters and registers.
  • Co-ordinate the activities of all personnel to ensure that all staff deliver as per their roles.
  • Responsible for the development of all staff to ensure a multi-skilled team. To ensure that all staff is trained effectively to perform their functions to the required standard.
  • To assess the performance of staff on quarterly basis as per the HR policies.
  • You are to ensure adherence to company’s disciplinary procedures as per HR policies and procedures.
  • Enforce compliance to OSHA.
  • Doing random spot checks to ensure that staff is stacking product in the correct manner.
  • To Supervise all the activities associated with the cold stores in such a way to minimize losses because of theft and shrinkage.
  • Stock rotation to ensure that old stock is picked ahead of new stock to minimise wastes.
  • Short dated stock must be identified timeously to minimize losses to the company.
  • To validate expiry dates of all picked goods.
  • To account for all stock wastage or breakages.
  • Checks on cold store temperatures to be done throughout the day. Temp: Between 4ºC and 7ºC, recorded as per Quality and Hygiene Policies and Procedures. You are responsible for the maintenance of this file.
  • To check the operation of each vehicles refrigeration unit ensuring each vehicle is operating and set at 2̊ C.
  • To ensure that no vehicle is loaded if the refrigeration unit in that vehicle is not working at the correct temperature.
  • To ensure that the cold chain is always protected and that the company product is never left out of a chilled environment.
  • To ensure that no damaged stock is loaded. If damage stock is found to report this to management immediately.
  • Doing random spot checks to ensure that your staff is handling product in the correct manner.
  • To Supervise all the activities associated with the loading of products in such a way so as to minimize losses as a result of damages, theft and shrinkage.
  • To manage all vehicle loading in-line with company policy, ensuring each vehicle is loaded accurately according to the picking lists and route schedules/ customer orders.
  • To ensure the vehicles are loaded timeously and that the cold chain is maintained at all times.
  • To ensure that all products loaded have the correct dates and recorded on picking list.
  • To ensure that no vehicles are illegally overloaded and to make sensible alterations to the respective load to remain legal.
  • To ensure random temperature checks on product samples on truck after loading.
  • To lock the vehicles securely after the necessary verification checks are done on the documentation to ensure that the correct stock was loaded and that the correct signatures are indicated.
  • Each vehicle is to be parked in the vehicle parking area and the refrigeration unit connected to electricity supply. Do not run diesel if any electrical power supply is available. Cold stores to be kept in a neat and tidy manner with products stored as per designated areas.
  • To daily enforce the Clean-as-you-go principle in the DC though a ZERO TOLERANCE APPROACH to poor housekeeping.
  • To Ensure the cold store is being well organised and clean for the next shift.
  • Ensure that the cold store and loading yard is always left neat and tidy at all times by adopting a “A clean as you go policy” the end of each shift(after loading).
  • Ensure the completion of cleaning checklists daily.
  • Maintain excellent hygiene standards as prescribed in the Company’s cleaning and hygiene policies.
  • Comply with all relevant legislation and established standards of best practice
  • Comply with Food Safety / Hygiene and Quality requirements as outlined by company SOP’s and written instructions in all tasks and activities.
  • Ensure that all staff members in the department has received a departmental induction focussed on food safety/ hygiene and quality.
  • Complete all records and reports timeously and accurately as described in the relevant SOP’s, protocols and associated documentation.
  • Participate in internal audits and ensure that corrective measures are implemented.
  • Carry out any duty or requirement imposed on the company by the OHS Act and in accordance with your specific SHE appointment.
  • Report any unsafe or unhealthy situations to Production Manager / SHE Manager.
  • Report any incident to the SHE representative or Production Manager which may affect your health or cause injury.
  • Ensure that all staff members in the department have received a departmental induction focussed on health and safety
  • Ensure a DIFR of a maximum of <1 is allowed within the department.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or Equivalent
  • Forklift license (valid)
  • Basic Supervisor Qualification
  • 1 years’ experience in FMCG Warehouse environment
  • 3 years of experience working in a supervisory capacity
  • Computer literate, experience in working with warehouse systems.
