Supply Chain Executive – Perishables Category / Western Cape

Reporting to: Managing Executive: Perishables

Location: Bellville, Cape Town, Western Cape

Job Overview/Role Purpose:

The Supply Chain Executive will be accountable for the strategic ownership, governance, and end-to-end
leadership of all aspects of the supply chain, including procurement, planning, logistics, and inventory
management for the Lancewood and Millennium Foods business units in the Libstar Group.

The Supply Chain Executive will ensure the efficient and timely movement of materials, goods, and services
to support the manufacturing process and meet customer demands. The successful candidate must have
strong leadership skills, a comprehensive understanding of supply chain operations, and the ability to
effectively collaborate cross-functionally.

Role Responsibilities:

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Own, develop, and lead the implementation of a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with
    the Perishables Category goals and objectives.
  • Provide strategic leadership, governance, and accountability for all aspects of the supply chain;
    including procurement, S&OP planning, production scheduling, logistics, inventory management
    (Final Products, Ingredients & Packing materials), warehousing and distribution.

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Lead, govern, and take accountability for the integrated demand, supply, and inventory planning
    processes, fostering cross-functional collaboration across commercial, procurement, manufacturing,
    logistics, and finance functions to ensure optimal supply chain performance.
  • Provide stakeholder governance and maintain effective communication with key stakeholders,
    offering strategic updates on supply chain performance, emerging risks, and improvement initiatives,
    while driving cross-functional alignment to address challenges and opportunities.
  • Govern strategic relationships with key retail customer supply chain teams to improve forecasting
    accuracy, replenishment efficiency, and service performance.

Procurement and Supplier Management

  • Develop and govern the Procurement Strategy and Policies.
  • Provide strategic oversight of supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure the delivery of
    products at competitive prices.
  • Implement procurement best practices to drive cost savings and mitigate risks.
  • Drive and support procurement optimisation in B-BBEE.

Inventory and Logistics Management

  • Monitor and optimise inventory levels to ensure adequate stock availability of Final Products,
    Ingredients & Packing materials in Raw Material warehouses, Distribution Centre’s, and other 3rd
    party distribution partners, while minimising carrying costs and obsolescence.
  • Manage the appointment and effective management of 3rd party primary and secondary distribution
    partners.
  • Manage relationships with 3rd party service providers and customers’ supply chain teams.
  • Develop, govern, and lead the Logistics Strategy and implementation thereof.
  • Manage and ensure Service Level targets are achieved.
  • Provide strategic oversight and governance of the transportation and logistics functions to ensure
    timely delivery of products and materials between suppliers and manufacturing facilities and to
    customers.
  • Drive shelf-life optimisation and waste reduction initiatives across the end-to-end supply chain.

Risk Management

  • Own the risk governance framework by identifying potential risks within the supply chain, such as
    supplier disruptions, transportation delays, or quality issues, and develop mitigation strategies to
    minimise impact.
  • Establish contingency plans and alternative suppliers to ensure business continuity.
  • Govern and ensure accountability for compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
    throughout the supply chain process.
  • Ensure effective cold chain integrity across procurement, storage, transportation, and distribution
    activities, including third-party service providers.

Process and Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate planning along the end to end value chain across business units, functions and sites.
  • Own, govern, and lead the Integrated Business Planning / S&OP process to align demand, supply,
    inventory, production, and commercial objectives.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimise plant utilisation, production efficiencies, and
    network capacity.
  • Take strategic ownership of evaluating and optimising supply chain network design to improve
    service levels and save costs.
  • Provide strategic leadership and governance for supply chain digitalisation initiatives, including ERP
    optimisation, data analytics, automation, and reporting capabilities.
  • Implement best practices such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory
    management to drive operational excellence.
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) initiatives through effective coordination of packaging
    changeovers and new product launches to minimise write-offs, ensure supply continuity, and achieve
    on-time market launches.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve supply chain processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and
    increase agility.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices in supply chain
  • management.

Financial Management

  • Develop, govern, and manage the Supply Chain budget.
  • Ensure governance over adequate stock provision and monthly inventory disclosure in accordance
    with financial standards.
  • Drive the optimisation of stock levels across the full value chain to ensure efficient inventory
    management, improved service levels, and optimal working capital utilisation.
  • Take accountability for monitoring and analysing variances, and implement corrective measures as
    needed.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide strategic leadership to lead, mentor, and develop the supply chain team, fostering a culture
    of continuous improvement, agility, high performance, and accountability.
  • Set, govern, and cascade clear goals and objectives and ensure resource allocation is optimal.
  • Foster a supportive and motivating environment that encourages individual growth and
    development.
  • Own the performance governance framework by developing and maintaining key performance
    indicators (KPIs), including forecast accuracy, inventory days, waste, logistics cost, customer service
    levels, and working capital performance, to measure supply chain effectiveness and communicate
    results to management.

Qualification requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Management, Supply Chain Management or
    equivalent).
  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant field.

Professional Experience and Behavioral requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management within a food manufacturing
    environment.
  • Minimum of 8 years of senior management experience.
  • Experience with perishable products will be advantageous.
  • Proven track record of successful supply chain optimisation, cost reduction, and process
    improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of local regulations, customs, and import/export requirements.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles and experience with process improvement projects is
    advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for supply chain management and process
    improvement.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build high impact teams to drive performance.
  • Experience in leading and sustaining change effectively.
  • Must be stakeholder and customer focused with the ability to build relationships.
  • Must have integrity and be able to build trust.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with
    cross functional teams and executive management.
  • Valid driver’s license with own reliable transport.
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required.
