Reporting to: Procurement Cluster Head
Location: White River, Mpumalanga
The Supply Chain Manager will oversee and drive procurement activities at Ambassador Foods, with a primary focus on sourcing and managing raw materials and packaging. This role emphasizes strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement planning, while collaborating with logistics, warehousing, and technical teams to ensure cost-effective, timely, and high-quality supply of materials. In addition, the role will interface with customers and the Key Accounts team to align on pricing strategies, commodity market trends, and sales growth opportunities.
Key performance areas include:
- Lead the procurement of raw materials and packaging, ensuring timely availability for production and customer requirements.
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives with approved suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and supply continuity.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, conducting performance reviews and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the technical team to ensure supplier products meet specifications and customer expectations.
- Work directly with customers to discuss pricing, commodity market trends, and cost drivers, building transparency and trust.
- Partner with the Key Accounts team to develop pricing strategies, support commercial negotiations, and identify opportunities to improve sales through supply chain efficiency.
- Collaborate with logistics and warehousing teams to ensure seamless inbound material flow and inventory availability.
- Monitor procurement budgets, negotiate contracts, and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Track market intelligence (commodity prices, availability risks, global supply trends) to inform both procurement and sales strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives across the procurement and supply chain process.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in procurement or supply chain management, ideally in food manufacturing or FMCG.
- Experience in customer-facing supply chain or commercial roles is advantageous.
- Proven track record in supplier management, cost negotiations, and commodity market analysis.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement software.
- Knowledge of food industry standards, compliance, and quality assurance will be beneficial.
Skills & Personal Attributes:
- Strong expertise in procurement and strategic sourcing, particularly raw materials and packaging.
- Commercial acumen with the ability to link commodity trends to pricing and customer discussions.
- Solid understanding of logistics and warehousing processes for effective collaboration.
- Excellent negotiation and contract management skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying risks and opportunities.
